Your renovation lives in five different places.

A spreadsheet that's two weeks behind. A Pinterest board that doesn't know your budget. A WhatsApp thread that's your decision log. A photos folder that's your filing system. A shoebox of receipts you'll sort at the end.

You're the one making them talk to each other. Tally is one place for all of it — budget, wishlist, receipts, decisions — updated by both of you, in real time. The AI does the data entry; you just point your camera. One room or a whole portfolio of properties.

How it works

From showroom to spreadsheet in two taps.

01

Photograph what you love

You see a tile in a showroom. Snap it. Tally's AI reads the item name, estimated price, and supplier automatically — no typing required.

02

Pin it to your room budget

The item appears in your bathroom pins. Tally shows you immediately: if you bought everything pinned for this room, you'd be £340 over your £1,500 target.

£340 over your £1,500 target

03

Compare your options

You've saved two tiles. Compare them side by side — names, prices, suppliers — and make the call before you're at the checkout.

04

Scan the receipt

You buy the one that fits. Photograph the receipt. Tally reads every line: vendor, date, item by item. It asks which room each line belongs to.

05

It links itself

Tally finds the pin you saved and links them. The pin marks itself purchased. The budget updates. The shoebox gets thinner.

Purchased · linked

More than a budget.

Tally quietly handles the rest of the job too: the planning, the documents, the warranties, the quotes — the bits you would otherwise lose.

AI document inbox

Photograph any quote, warranty, manual or receipt. Tally reads it, works out what it is, and files it in the right place.

Shared to-do list

Plan the job as a shared checklist — drag to reorder, assign each task to your partner or the trades, and tick it off together.

Quotes to actuals

Save a quote, keep it out of your spend, convert it when the work is done.

Search everything

Every pin, expense, receipt and document, from one search box.

Whole portfolio

One room, one house, or a portfolio of properties side by side.

Shareable boards

Send a read-only view to your builder or partner. No account needed.

Works offline

Scan on-site with no signal. It syncs the moment you are back.

AI receipt scanning

Snap it.
Tally reads the rest.

Point your phone at a receipt. Tally's AI reads the vendor, the date, and every line item — then asks which room each line belongs to.

If you've already pinned any of those items, it finds them and links them automatically. You close the app. The budget is updated.

Every scanned receipt is stored against the expense — not just the metadata, the actual image. When your accountant asks, or HMRC does, it's already there.

Every room has its own budget, its own wishlist, and its own spend. Tally shows you what buying everything you've pinned would cost — against the budget you have left.

You see the number before you're at the checkout. Before you've committed. That's the whole point.

Both of you.
Same number.

One of you is at the tile showroom. The other is at home. One scans receipts; the other saves ideas. Both of you see the same budget, the same wishlist, the same total — updated in real time.

No more "I thought we had budget left."

HMRC-ready export

One tap.
Everything your accountant needs.

When your renovation is done, export a full PDF record: every expense, every receipt reference, every line item broken out by type. Structured for SA105 rental claims, or to prove CGT base cost when you eventually sell.

Materials vs labour split

HMRC distinguishes capital items from running costs. Tally tracks the type of every line.

Supplier names & dates

Every expense is stamped with vendor, date, and room — the three things an inspector asks for first.

Receipt images stored

Digital copies are legally equivalent to paper. Tally keeps the scan linked to the expense, not in a camera roll.

CGT base cost, years later

If you sell, improvement costs reduce your capital gain. You need records from the day you bought the tiles.

HMRC requires records for 5+ years (rental income) or until 4 years after disposal (CGT). Tally holds them for as long as you need.

Private by design.

Your renovation is your business. Tally is built so the data is walled off by default, and so you can walk away with all of it whenever you like.

See how it is built

Isolated per project

Row-level security in the database means one project can never see another’s data. Not by convention, by the database itself.

Private file store

Receipts and documents live in a private store, reachable only through short-lived signed links. Never a public URL.

Photos stay yours

Every photo is stripped of its location and camera metadata on your device, before it is uploaded.

Yours to take

Export everything to a PDF bundle, or delete your account and data, any time. No lock-in.

Tally started because Al, a senior project manager, and his wife Emma, a psychologist, were renovating their first home in London and running it across five apps that never talked to each other. He built the thing they needed. She still checks the budget more than he does.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is Tally a renovation budget app?

Yes. Tally is a renovation cost tracker and budgeting app that keeps your whole project in one place — budget, wishlist, receipts, documents and tasks. You set a budget per room and Tally keeps the running total up to date as you spend.

Can my partner and I use Tally together?

Yes — Tally is built for both of you. Share a project and you both see the same budget, wishlist and totals in real time, updated as either of you scans a receipt or saves an idea. Collaborators are always free, so you only ever pay for the project, never for seats.

Does Tally have a planner or shared to-do list?

Yes. Tally includes a shared, gamified checklist for the work itself. Create tasks, drag them into order, assign each one to your partner or a tradesperson, set a due date, and watch the progress bar fill as you tick them off together.

How does the AI receipt scanning work?

Photograph a receipt and Tally's AI reads the supplier, the date and every line item, then asks which room each line belongs to. If you have already pinned one of those items, it links the purchase automatically and updates your budget — no manual data entry.

Can I track more than one property?

Yes. Tally works for a single room, a whole-house renovation, or a portfolio of properties side by side — so it suits homeowners, couples and landlords alike.

Does Tally help with tax and HMRC records?

Yes. Every expense is stored with its supplier, date, room and receipt image, split by materials, labour and tools. Export a single HMRC-ready PDF for SA105 rental claims, or to prove your capital-gains base cost when you eventually sell.

Is Tally free, and does it work offline?

Tally is free during the private beta, with simple plans (Free, Personal, Pro and Vault) priced per project at launch. It runs on the web and as iOS and Android apps, and works offline — scan receipts on-site with no signal and they sync the moment you are back online.
